Health Benefits Of Fruits


It’s is well said that we are, what we eat. Nature has given us so many gifts we can’t thank enough for. One among them is fruits. Fruits come in different colors and flavors. Each fruit has unique nutrient value with it which helps human body to be fit and free of diseases. 

Fruits are excellent source of vitamins and minerals, which help in proper functioning of body. Fruits are rich in fiber, which helps in functioning of digestive system. We should eat fruits when they are raw, fresh and ripe that is when they give us maximum health benefits. Eating processed fruits has no benefits as processing leads to decrease in nutrient value of fruits.

Here is a list of benefits of including fruits in our diet

Fruits are naturally low in fat, sodium and calories and hence can be consumed without any worries. Fruits are source of many of essential nutrients required by our body. Nutrients found are potassium, fiber, vitamin C, folic acid. 


Potassium helps to maintain blood pressure. We can get our daily dose of potassium from natural sources i.e. fruits. Fruits rich in potassium are banana, oranges, apricot, honeydew, prunes, raisins and dates. 


Dietary fiber helps to reduce blood cholesterol level and reduces the risk of heart disease. It helps to maintain bowl health. It also helps to control blood sugar levels. Fruits rich in dietary fiber are apple, banana, orange, strawberry, raspberry, mango and guava.


Vitamin C is important for regeneration and repair of body tissues and to keeps teeth and gums healthy. It also improves the immune system. Fruits rich in vitamin c are Guava, orange, kiwi, strawberries and grapefruit.  



Folic acid mainly helps in formation of red blood cells. Pregnant women should consume adequate amount of folic acid from foods. Folic acid helps to reduce the neural tube defects like spina bifida. Food rich in folic acid are banana, orange, papaya, grapefruit, grape and strawberries. 

Fruits help to maintain body weight as they give feeling of fullness with fewer calories. 

Fruits are rich in vitamins, minerals, fiber and antioxidants and are effective to protect against chronic diseases such as heart disease and cancer. 

Fruits have anti-oxidant properties which help to strengthen immune system. 

Fruits are also rich in water content which keeps our body well hydrated. 

Fruits are generally low in fat and few fruits which have fat that contain good cholesterol which helps to reduces the level of bad cholesterol in body. 

Fruits also have benefits for skin as it keep skin naturally young, reduces spots , delays ageing and wrinkles. 

Fruits also promote hair growth, reduces hair fall and prevent premature greying. 

It is recommended to include 2-3 serving of fruits every day. To attain maximum benefits from fruits we should include seasonal fruits in our diet.
