Lifestyle affects our health in many ways. In
today’s face-paced life people so busy that they ignore the importance of living a
healthy lifestyle. This in turn leads to many lifestyle related diseases. Some of
the common lifestyle diseases are heart disease, diabetes, obesity, and
hypertension. These diseases are caused by alcohol, smoking, lack of physical
activity and unhealthy eating. By bringing a few changes in our lifestyle we
can prevent lifestyle diseases. Here I am listing few habits including which in
daily routine will help to make our lifestyle healthier.
1.Waking up early: I know many of
us don’t have habit of waking up early. But I am sure once you know the benefits
of waking up early and positive effects it has on your daily routine, you might
want to give it a try.
Benefits:
·
More
productivity:
When we wake up early, we are more energetic and can do work in lesser time as compared
to waking up late.
·
Good mental
health:
How you spend you early hours of the day decides the tone of the rest of day.
Early risers have enough time to do their tasks as a result they do not need to
rush in mornings. Thus it helps to reduce stress level. It helps to add
positivity to your life.
·
Improves sleep
quality:
Early risers go to bed early. Waking up early should be made as part of daily
routine. This helps to improve sleep quality as body’s internal clock adapts to
new sleep routine.
·
Helps to maintain
healthier diet:
When you wake up late, you tend to skip breakfast. It leads to starvation and
when you eat, you are likely to overeat and crave for unhealthy foods. On the
other hand if you wake up early, you can have breakfast and provide your body
with all the nutrients required for energy throughout the day.
2. Drinking water: Drinking water
empty stomach early morning is known to have many benefits which most of us are
unaware of.
Facts:
·
Many
people drink water standing, it has negative impact on kidneys. When we stand
up and drink water, it goes directly to the stomach and damages stomach wall
and nearby organs. Kidneys filters better when we sit and drink water.
·
Drinking
water 1 hour before or 1/2 hour after food helps in digestion. Drinking water too
soon after food , dilutes the digestive juices and results in slower digestion.
Benefits:
·
Drinking
water empty stomach in morning helps to flush out all the toxins out of the
body. It thus purifies blood and makes skin glow.
·
It
helps in formation of new cells in body and strengths the muscles.
·
Drinking
water empty stomach in morning helps to reduce weight as it increases the metabolism
of the body.
·
It
helps to prevent constipation. It also helps to keep many diseases like throat
infections, eye diseases, kidney and headache away.
3 3. Correct way of
taking bath:
Nowadays most of people use shower in bathing. They put water on their head
first and then on the body. This way of bathing is not correct. Bathing should
be followed from down to up manner. Water should be first poured on feet,
thighs then rest of body and at last on head.
Scientific reason behind this is
that when you pour water on head, the veins in brain shrink which leads to clotting of the blood. Doing this over the years is harmful for brain and can
lead to paralysis or brain hemorrhage. Taking bath after having food is not
correct as it leads to irregular digestion.
4. Correct way of
having food:
We have tradition of crossing legs and sitting down while having food. But this
seems to be becoming less visible nowadays.
Many people can be seen standing
and having food. When we sit and have food we tend to consume less food, we eat
slowly and pay attention to what we eat. We chew food more which is good for
digestion.
Try not to watch TV while having food as it distracts your
concentration from food
and sometimes you end up eating more. It also lowers metabolic rate.
I believe most of you might be following
some of the lifestyle habits mentioned above. In case you are not, you can
start them now. I know it’s not possible in one day but slowly if you start
following it will become part of daily routine.
As we know precaution is better
than cure, it’s better to bring some changes in our lifestyle which develops positive
attitude and in long run leads to healthier and
happier life.
